An inauspicious start with heavy rain, in Kansas City.

At the Whiteman Visitor Reception Center, Whiteman AFB.

Entrance to the only missle control center on the base itself.

This end of the building houses the elevator that takes you 45 feet down to the command center. One of these house-like buildings occupied each of the 15 command centers in north-west Missouri.

MSgt Roger Hooker guides our tour. On the map you see the 15 command flights, each controlling 10 Minuteman missles. The colored area at the top left is Kansas City.

The 8 ton blast door leading to the command modules, with service being to our left and the command/control module to the right, behind another door.

In the mid-tunnel, with the command center door on our right.

Within the service module, with some of the air-conditioning/filtration system in view. The gray cylinder in back is part of the suspension system for the floor on which is mounted all the machinery.
